Peggy Garrison
Peggy Garrison, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Richland, Washington at the age of 96. She was born at home on December 5, 1928, in Enterprise, Oregon, to Lillian Pearl (Hall) Payne and James Samual Payne.
Peggy was the youngest of six siblings and is preceded in death by her sisters Wannetta Lillian Phillips, Emma Mary Payne, and her brothers James Aaron Payne, Porter (Tim) Alex Payne, and James Lee Payne.
A woman of unwavering faith, Peggy was raised in the Baptist tradition. Her days often began and ended with a hymn, a prayer, and time spent in her Bible. She was a lifelong learner, completing college courses throughout her life with a deep interest in psychology, finance, and gardening. Peggy embraced technology with curiosity and enthusiasm, mastering the computer, iPad, and iPhone well into her later years.
Peggy began her professional career later in life, working as a receptionist before rising to become a skilled bookkeeper. Her dedication and leadership were evident in her active role with the American Business Women’s Association, where she served as President of her local chapter.
Known for her playful wit and joyful spirit, Peggy was a collector of jokes, always ready to share a laugh and brighten someone’s day. But nothing brought her more happiness than time spent with her family-especially Sunday afternoons after church, surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Peggy was married to Thomas Benton Garrison in 1948, and though they later divorced in 1972, they shared four wonderful children together: Randolph (Randy) Lee Garrison (Mickey); Theresa Ann Richardson (David); Gwen Ellen Garrison (Linda); and Annette Garrison.
She is survived by her four children, four grandchildren (Ty Garrison (Beth), Jet Richardson, Matthew Richardson (Sara), and Ryder Richardson (Gina)), and five great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy in her final days was having all her children together-something that brought her immense peace and comfort.
Peggy’s legacy is one of faith, strength, humor, and love. She will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all who knew her. Her family will hold a Celebration of Life on July 20, 2025, in Richland, Washington.
My Aunt Peggy was such a special person that always lit up any space. She was kind and loving, silly, and funny. I can’t ever remember a time she wasn’t smiling. I’m very blessed to have had her in my life.
