Marilyn Jean Thompson

Marilyn “Jean” Thompson, age 95, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025. She was born in Dundee, Minnesota, on January 15, 1930, to Mabel and Ray Olson. She graduated from Fulda High School in 1948.

In 1950, Jean married Roland “Rollie” Thompson at the Lutheran Church in Dundee, Minnesota. They remained devoted to one another for over 69 years. Together, they shared a love of sports, fishing, square dancing, and taking cruises with family.

Jean and Rollie moved to Richland, Washington, following their wedding in 1950 where they raised their two sons, Dean and James “Jim”. Jean was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who deeply cherished time with her family. She found great joy in hosting family, and her home was always open, warm, and full of love.

A lifelong Lutheran, Jean was a devoted member of her church community. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, and watching baseball. Her calm presence, strong spirit, and loving nature touched all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband Roland “Rollie”, her parents Ray and Mabel Olson, sisters Murl Eng & Elizabeth “Betty” Miller, & brother Ray “Spank” Olson. She is survived by her sister Carol Roesner, sons Dean (Kathy) and James (Suzette), granddaughter LeAnna (Forrest), grandsons Hunter and Tyler (Katelyn), and great-granddaughter Emma.

A private funeral will be held at Einan’s at Sunset in Richland.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Chaplaincy Hospice Care and all the caregivers at Village View Adult Family Home who provided such compassionate support during Jean’s final days.

  • Jean was loved very much by our family. I can still hear her laugh in my mind. She was so kind to all of us kids. I know she is in heaven and already talking to my mom. My thoughts go out to the family.

  • Jean and Rollie were such sweet neighbors. They were the first ones to welcome me to the neighborhood in 2008. They used to bring me tomatoes and cucumbers, and hang them in a bag on my doorknob. Jean always fretted because I would walk my dog after dark. I often looked in their living room window to see a baseball game on TV, and Jean keeping score in her score book. I miss both of them. I especially miss Jean‘s famous strawberry Jell-O.
