From West Richland, WA | Born in Denver, CO
Larry “Skip” E. Sandberg
Larry E. Sandberg “Skip” was called home by his heavenly father on July 16th, 2023. He was born April 26th, 1940 in Denver, Colorado to Larry and Marie Sandberg. He attended Adams High School and still maintained friendships. He met and married Stella Haag in Colorado before moving to Richland, WA where they started Tri-City Fence. It was a successful business for fifty years. They had two children.
In his teens, he became interested in power lifting, devoting his life to it and training others to love the sport. He set records attending worldwide meets, and accumulated many trophies. He was featured in magazines. After 60 years while still active, Skip was inducted into the Power Lifting Hall Of Fame.
With his second wife, May Hayes, they opened the Sandberg Event Center in West Richland. He was very proud of the remodeling and waterfall feature he created.
With the closure of the fence company and marriage, Skip continued employment with Almond Asphalt as a salesman. Dominic and Melissa, the owners, became extended family. He loved his job and the contact with the business world to the very end.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Brownie, Howard and Andy. He is survived by his son Brigham Sandberg and granddaughter Jayce, his daughter Stefanie Sandberg and grandson Jayden, sister Kathryn Baumgarten, Tonia Walters and brother-in-law Gary. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, a family in Kansas and special friends.
Friends of Skip will be holding Memorial Potluck in his honor at Flat Top Park on August 19th, 2023 at 5 pm. Please RSVP to 509-967-3465 and bring a dish to pass.
An open house “Celebration of Life” will be shared with his brother Andy on September 2, 2023, at 4209 Norma Loop, West Richland, WA between 3 and 6 p.m.
Skip will always be respected. He taught me a lot and will always be my favorite spotter even when he can one-hand more than I can lift. There are literally thousands more that could thank him here, but we all know the awesome guy he was and is! May we meet again, friend.
Skipper…you and I enjoyed work and great cars. We shared many great lunches. You will be missed, but I will see you again. Rest in peace my friend.

Hey brother,
The ice tea is cold and waiting. So glad we shared the last years reminiscing our times in Colorado and your sales jobs at Almond Asphalt.
My family appreciated the opportunity and skills we learned at Tri City Fence.
We have fond memories, you are missed. Love, your sister.
