Gary Raymond Fletcher

At the end of his valiant battle verses cancer, the Yakima Valley lost a good man with the passing of Gary R Fletcher.  Looking back over his life it is clear that he lived well, felt the love of his family & friends, and laughed often.

Born May 16, 1944 in Selah, Washington, the son of James and Ramona (Hull) Fletcher, Gary Raymond Fletcher, 74, passed away June 8, 2018 in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Gary was born and raised in Selah’s Wenas Valley.  He graduated from Selah High School in 1962 where he met and started dating the love of his life, Linda Rogers.  Gary and Linda were married October 20, 1962.  They enjoyed 56 years of marriage together.  Gary liked to refer to himself as a jack of many trades, master of none.  Over his life he sold cars for Pingrey Motors, Kelleher Motors and Sunfair Chevrolet at different times.  He owned and operated American Heritage Oak.  He worked for many years for Petrolane Gas and owned and operated Fletcher’s Restaurant in Yakima for 10 years.  He retired from Amerigas, where he specialized in the sale, design and installation of orchard heating systems all over the Inland Northwest.

Gary loved his Seahawks, Mariners and Cougars. However, nothing gave him more joy than watching his grandkids play Baseball, Basketball, Volleyball, Football and most of all Softball.  He had the opportunity in his retirement to follow his granddaughter’s college softball team all over the United States.  These road trips watching “his girls play ball” were some of his most cherished memories.  He took great pride in being greeted as Papa and given hugs before and after games by his granddaughter and her teammates.

Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and family.  Whether hunting Deer in the Palouse, Elk on Clemons Mountain, Pheasant in North Dakota, or Crabbing in Hoodsport, Gary’s infectious laugh and good nature helped make the trip an outstanding memory for everyone.

Gary leaves behind his wife Linda; son Todd and wife Shawna; daughter Tami and husband Trent Cain; Grandchildren Cheyenne, Dakota and Tegan; Sister Susan and husband Ken Barnhart; many nieces and nephews, as well as his faithful companions (dogs) Molly and Macy.  He was preceded in death by his father James, mother Ramona, and brothers Forest and Jim Fletcher.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ying Zhuo and Dr. Sue Mandell for their exemplary care and compassion.  They would also like to thank all of the staff at Kadlec Clinic Hematology and Oncology for their hard work, kindness, and a little bit of sass along the way!  We also want to recognize the Chaplaincy Hospice Care team.  You are all truly Angels.

In lieu of flowers we would like to request donations to Chaplaincy Hospice Care.
