John Maxwell
John W. Maxwell, 87, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and holding his wife's hand, on April 21, 2018. John was born on Christmas Day, 1930, to John And Willie Mae Maxwell. After graduating from high school, John enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949 in his hometown of Dublin, Texas, and served in combat in Korea with the 24th Infantry Division. He moved to Washington State after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1951, where he met his future wife Marilyn Woehle. John and Marilyn were married on February 14, 1953.
John
began work on the Hanford Site for General Electric in 1952, became a
Journeyman Electrician while at G.E., and also worked for Atlantic Richfield,
Isochem, and The Washington Public Power Supply System before retiring from
Hanford in 1988.
John was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, outdoorsman, veteran and patriot,
Christian, husband, father, and grandfather, and a proud member of the I.B.E.W.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marilyn; his children
Vicki (Rick), Cynthia (Bruce), Edward (Monique), Joe, Elaine, Mary (John), and
daughter-in-law Donna; grandchildren Mike, Eric, Maggie, Caitlin, Stephanie,
Cameron, Heidi, Nicole, Alexa, Elizabeth, Matthew, Logan (Deb), and Kirstie;
great-grandchildren Dylan, Brianna, Laiken, Kylie, and Drew; brothers Larry
(Artheta) and Joe (Marilyn); sister Linda (Dick); sisters-in-law Shirley, Karen
(Jerry), and Lita (Lynn); as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his son John Michael; brothers Roy, Wayne, and Carl; sister Angie and husband Raymond; brothers-in-law Hilbert and Bernie and wife Fran.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for John on Monday, April 30, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Kennewick, Washington, followed by a luncheon at the church. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2:00 p.m. for those who would like to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Indian School, 1301 N. Main Street, Chamberlain, South Dakota 57325, or the charity of your choice.
