September 18th, 1928 – July 12th, 2016
When asked what is their fondest memory of Nancy Olsen, people respond most frequently “her smile”. She must be smiling today, in heaven with Jesus.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism at the University of Colorado in June 1949, Nancy worked as relief wire editor and special reporter on the Colorado Springs Free Press. Nancy’s dress code at work was influenced by the Colorado ranching community.
Nancy Hall and Dale Olsen were married in a Lutheran ceremony in Colorado Springs in August 12, 1950. Dale’s employment by the Boy Scouts of America necessitated their relocation about every three years. One of the assignments they enjoyed most was Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico.
When living in Michigan, Nancy and Dale adopted four children: Michael, John, Mark, and Sally.
Nancy was an advertising writer for General Motors from 1962 – 1968. Then became a news reporter for The Commercial New in Danville, Illinois from 1968 – 1971.
After they moved to Dallas, Texas, Nancy began working at Brookhaven Community College in 1979. She retired from there in 1992 as secretary to the Vice President.
Following retirement in 1992, Nancy relocated to Richland Washington to be near family. Nancy was fluent in Spanish and had briefly traveled to a language institute in Mexico from Dallas as part of her work duties. She returned to Mexico for a longer visit to the language institute after her retirement.
In retirement, Nancy enjoyed reading, watching sports, and genealogy. She always had a warm caring smile and kind word for everyone she met. She enjoyed being with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Nancy was active in Richland Lutheran Church. Her favorite activities included Bible study groups, growth groups, and helping with the Sunday bulletin. A celebration of life will be held at Richland Lutheran on August 4th, beginning at 6:00 pm.
Nancy is survived by her children Michael (Janet) (Apollo Beach, Florida), Mark (Seattle, Washington), and Sally (Giller) (Richland, Washington), and by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren whom she loved very much.
