Dean William Engel

Dean William Engel passed away peacefully June 29, 2015 at The Guardian Angel in Richland, WA. He was born on September 8, 1933 in Santa Ana, CA. He was raised in Santa Ana and then moved to Shady Cove, OR at the age of 14. He attended Oregon Technical Institute and received a certificate of gunsmithing.

On March 17, 1957 Dean married the love of his life, Donna Lou Haney of Reseda, CA.

Dean was in the Army from 1957-1959 and was stationed in Korea for a year. He then worked for Atomics International in Canoga Park, CA. In 1974 the family moved to Richland, WA where he worked at Westinghouse from 1974 until 1994 when he retired as a manager of nuclear material.

Dean loved his family and had a very special bond with his grandkids and great grandkids. He especially loved our family vacations to the beach and Canada.

Dean also loved hunting, fishing, watching and attending sporting events, and reading.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Mabel Engel and one sister Jaye Ayres.

Dean is survived by his wife of 58 years Donna Lou Engel, brother Robert Engel (Drinda) of Eagle Point, OR, son Donald William Engel (Cheryl) of Yakima, WA, son Darryl Wayne Engel (Catherine) of Seattle, WA, grandson Matthew William Engel (Viviana) of Richland, WA, Ryan Wayne Engel of San Luis Obispo, great grandchildren Asia, Isabella, Ethan, Joshua and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Datta, The Guardian Angel staff and Hospice for the wonderful care given to our beloved husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa.

A celebration of Dean’s life will be held at Events at Sunset (915 Bypass Highway, Richland, WA) on Monday July 6^th, 2015 at 11am. The Engel family invites guests to continue sharing memories after the service during the reception, immediately following the service.
