From Kennewick, WA, US | Born in Kennewick, WA
Rebecca Lynn Hughes
Rebecca Lynn Hughes was born in Kennewick Wa, on the 19th of October 1958 and remained a resident of Kennewick for 55 years. She was the third of five children and is survived by her siblings, Nikki Majkut, Eric Longan, and Dawn Pidcock; as well as her husband Harrison Sterling Hughes, and her children Jacob Alden Hughes, Harrison Hunter Hughes and Laura Elizabeth Hughes-Trumble.
Rebecca passed away on Monday the 22nd of September 2014 after a valiant struggle with cancer. While combating an aggressive illness Rebecca clearly lived her life to the fullest degree, maintaining employment and head of family status. She is preceded in death by her parents Garland and Bonnie Longan, her youngest brother David Longan, and her mother and father in-law Virginia and Walter Hughes.
Rebecca was well known for her love of learning, specifically of topics including nature and local history. She earned a Bachelors of Arts in History from Washington State University Tri-Cities in May of 2006, Magna Cum Laude. Her higher education aspirations proved incredibly inspirational as evidenced by her children who hold four graduate degrees in total.
Her position as a park interpretive specialist for Sacajawea State Park in Pasco Wa, provided her with many opportunities to impart her knowledge and enthusiasm to younger generations and adult learners alike. She was proud to be part of the Confluence project which brought artist Maya Lin to design an installation to show the history and current significance of Sacajawea State Park and other sites along the Columbia River.
A memorial service and reception to follow is being held at Einan's at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland, 915 Bypass Highway on Sunday the 28th at 2:00 p.m.
Her family wishes to show appreciation for professional and excellent care of the staff of the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, as well as Dr. Jose Ness & the short stay staff at Trios Healthcare. Donations may be made to the Chaplaincy at http://www.tricitieschaplaincy.org/pages/MakeaDonation
...my dream-artist can draw anything, and do it perfectly; he can paint with all the color and all the shades, and do it with delicacy and truth; he can place before me vivid images of palaces, cities, hamlets, hovels, mountains, valleys, lakes, skies, glowing in sunlight or moonlight, or veiled in driving gusts of snow or rain, and he can set before me people who are intensely alive, and who feel, and express their feelings in their faces, and who also talk and laugh, sing and swear. And when I wake I can shut my eyes and bring back those people...
-Mark Twain "My Platonic Sweetheart"

Our most sincere condolences go to all of the Hughes family. Our thoughts are with you.
We are so sorry and shocked, that your Mother has gone to heaven, she was a beautiful Lady. She is no longer going to suffer. May God be with all of you left behind, and give you strength in this time of loss.
Love, Ben and Gladys Schwehr
I am so sorry for your loss.
Thinking about all of you
And prayers to all.
Becky was my big sister. Every childhood memory I have includes her. Our birthdays may as well have been the same day because we were as excited for each others as our own. Becky loved life and fought to live until the end. She never gave up. We all can learn from her battle that life is so precious and is truly a gift. Her character and morals were genuine and it shows in her family. It is a privilege and joy to have been a part of her life.
Becky departed much too soon, in so doing she left behind a gift… that being a bittersweet reminder of how we must live.
