Yolonda Marie "Loni" Elmo-Farwell Baby Avery Aaliyah Farwell
Yolonda Marie Elmo was born November 8, 1982 to Danny and Tammy Elmo in Yakima, Washington. The family moved to Kennewick in 1984. Loni attended Kennewick schools and graduated from Kennewick High School in 2001 where she lettered in Volleyball and Track. Loni graduated from WSU with a degree in History and received her Masters in Education from Heritage College, Toppenish, Washington. College life was adventurous and at times hilarious as attested to by her roommate and best friend, Jenny.
After graduation, Loni substituted at Highland Middle School in Kennewick and later began working at Hanford as an Operations Support Specialist, where she continued until her passing. During that time Loni was a mentor for the Sacajawea Elementary School Junior Achievement Program. Loni married Jason Farwell on Nov. 27, 2010 and became a mother to his son, Ta'lon and daughter, Janay. They made their home in Pasco.
Loni was an absolute avid reader; she loved books of all kinds and it was not unusual for her to be reading two or three novels at the same time.
Family was very important to Loni and she recently was doing internet research of her father's family history. She had a very special relationship with her mother, father and her brother Adrian. They are a very close-knit family and truly enjoyed one another's company. Loni loved to cook, especially baking. She looked forward to her weekly family dinner night with her family and Jenny and Ryan Lang.
She was an extremely loving and loyal wife, daughter, sister and friend. She had a sparkling personality that lit up the room, she was genuine and fun to be around.
Her favorite quote was one she borrowed from her mother, Tammy, "I'm not trying to keep up with nobody named Jones".
Her perfect nights were spent relaxing with her family and friends, sipping wine and playing games, maybe watching a movie.
She enjoyed camping or relaxing by the pool and recently took up golf with her husband Jason. She said "I ALWAYS enjoy some sunshine".
Loni and Jason eagerly anticipated welcoming their daughter, Avery, into their lives, as did her parents Danny and Tammy her brother "Uncle" Adrian, Jason's parents Bruce and Martha, "Aunt" Chlayne and "Uncle" Rick Fellows. Loni spent much of her time preparing for Avery's arrival, getting her room ready, arranging her closet and making her daughter a quilt.
Loni passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Kadlec Medical Center.

Avery Aaliyah Farwell, a beautiful little doll, with a head full of long black hair was born in Richland, Washington to Jason and Yolonda "Loni" Farwell on June 8, 2013. She was perfect in every way. Avery was a fighter but could not overcome her battle. She passed away Monday June 10, 2013 at Kadlec Medical Center. Many know Loni as a vibrant and wonderful woman but we knew her as a bright and vibrant child since the age of two.
Her move to the Tri-Cities was a result of her father becoming a firefighter with the Hanford Fire Department.
As a young new native to the community, she was our next door neighbor. Literally, because our apartments were connected, Loni opened the door to our home and our hearts everyday.
This is a heartfelt loss to our family. There are no words to express the grief that is in our hearts.
We relish and cherish the thought that our Father needs Her and Avery more than us and that they are both protected with a Love and Might that is greater than that of mankind.
We will miss you here and our hearts go to Danny, Tammy, Adrian, Jason, Ta’lon, and Janay.
With His Grace and our Love,
The Benavides Family
Danny, Tammy, Jerry, Donny, Mr and Mrs Elmo. I can only imagine what you must be going through. I want to send out my deepest heartfelt condolences to all of you. I have known the Elmo brothers and their parents since I was a small boy and I think of them as extended family. I absolutely love them and I share their pain today. I speak for the entire Gonzales family, Jimmy, Johnny, Fina, Christina, Guy, and Patty mom Gonzales.
Perhaps there are no words that will make the loss of Loni and Avery ease. I had the great pleasure of meeting Loni through work and was struck by her grounded chacter, bright smiles, and upbeat personality. As I relocated to Western Washington it was great to here the news of Loni and Jason’s family growing to include a new baby girl. Loni’s vibrance makes her sudden loss so hard to comprehend.
Sending warm thoughts and prayers to Jason and Loni’s family and dear friends.
I worked with Loni from the day she started at Hanford. She was a very special person in our work group. Always quick to smile and to laugh but even quicker to lend a hand when something needed doing. She was very smart and very talented and a beautiful person inside and out. We will miss her and she will be in our memories always.
Danny,Tammy and Adrian I am so sorry to hear about Loni and her baby. I will always remember loni and how she always took care of Krista in daycare. The last time I saw her was at my Nieces wedding and she sure grew up so beautiful. My sympathy goes out to you guys and the farwell family. Love, Jami and Krista Fujihara
My deepest condolences for your family’s loss. I didn’t know Loni as well I as I would have liked to, but I feel like I really did know her from all the stories told daily in the firehouse. In those stories she always seemed to be the life of the party and an all around fun and caring person. And in the handful of times I was around her she thouroughly lived up to that image in my mind.
I also feel lucky to have met beautiful, strong little Avery while she was here.
I am so sorry that these two beautiful souls have moved on. They truly made the world a better place while they were here.
Dear Family- Truly saddened to hear of this news. I send you my family’s thoughts, prayers and condolences. It was a great pleasure to work with Danny during my time at HFD and wish I had the opportunity to know his beautiful daughter and granddaughter. Please let us Pasco Firefighters know if there is anything we can do for you.
