Granville Harry Phillips

Granville Phillips passed away on November 16, 2011 at the age of 83. Granville was born on June 13, 1928 to Garland and Marie Phillips in Mooreland, Oklahoma. The family moved to the Yakima Valley area and he graduated from White Swan High School in 1946. He married Berta Lanell Walker in Harrah in 1948 and they were married sixty-three years.

They moved to Richland in 1952 where he worked at Hanford. He was a shift supervisor at the N Reactor until his retirement in 1992. He was known for his quality work, "can do" attitude, and constant concern for safety.

Granville enjoyed agate hunting, boating, fishing, and camping with his family. He was also involved with little league during the years that his sons were growing up. He thoroughly enjoyed and had a very special relationship with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Richland. He was greatly loved by his family and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Berta and five sons and their families: Dale and Marilyn Phillips Sacramento, CA, Steve Phillips Irrigon, OR, Rob and Sue Phillips Kennewick, WA, Jeff and Linda Phillips West Richland, WA, Tim and Karen Phillips Pasco, WA. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services will be at First Baptist Church in Richland, WA on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

  • I am very sorry to hear of your loss. It is very hard to part with one of your parents even when you know that sooner or later you will have to, yet we still don’t want to let go of them. I continue to miss mine.

  • Mr. Phillips was a wonderful neighbor on Cullum Street a fixture, for that matter who always delivered a smile and a wave! He will be missed. To the family, some of whom I know, I give my sincere condolences and prayers. Your father was an excellent man!!
