David L. Carroll, DDS
Dr. David L. Carroll, beloved husband, father, brother and good friend was tragically taken from us on June 8th, 2011 at the age of 59. Dr. David Carroll was born in Centralia, Washington on January 19, 1952. He then moved with his family to Richland during the sixth grade, where he resided until called home to be with his Lord and Savior.
Dr. David Carroll graduated from Richland High in 1970 with his sweetheart, Michael. He then obtained his AA degree from Columbia Basin College in 1972. Dr. David Carroll graduated with honors in Zoology from Washington State University in 1976. He attended the University of Washington School of Dentistry and graduated in 1980. He also received his Fellowship Academy of General Dentistry in 1987. After his professional schooling, Dr. David Carroll joined the Army, as a Captain, and served his country for fifteen years. He then moved with his wife and three children back to Richland and began his professional dental practice.
David married the love of his life, Michael, on June 17, 1972. During their marriage, they were blessed with three children, Jennifer, Benjamin, and Wendy. Some of David's proudest moments were watching each of his children graduate from college and knowing that all three are saved through the grace of Jesus Christ. From a young age, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and lived his life unto the Lord daily. He was active in Columbia Bible Church for thirty-one years, where he was also a Deacon.
The Carroll family, being enthusiastic fans, enjoyed their Mariner box seats and loved attending spring training whenever possible. David was involved in the community and especially liked coaching his two daughters' summer softball teams. He also was an assistant coach at Hanford High School and the head coach for women's softball at Columbia Basin College for several years. Along with coaching, David enjoyed adventurous boating outings, camping, and being an avid reader of WWII. He also had a love of motorcycles, which began back in high school and continued throughout his life.
Dr. David Carroll was an active member in the Dental Society and the Carroll family would like to thank his staff for their dedication and outstanding service throughout the years. The Carroll family would also like to extend their sincere gratitude to David's patients for their patronage over the thirty-one years of his local dental practice. Thank you also to Dr. Edward Christopherson, Dr. David Zwiefel, and Dr. Kristina Bunch, along with the Tri-Cities Dental Community for their support during Dr. Carroll's preparation for deployment to Iraq and now through this difficult time.
Dr. David Carroll is survived by his cherished wife of thirty-nine years and best friend, Michael, his daughters Jennifer Lopez Jorge and Wendy Dammarell Ryan, and his late son's fiancée, Nichole Rushin. He is also survived by his siblings, Doug Carroll Judy, Jeanette Gagner Rick, and Donald Carroll Tina, as well as multiple extended family members. David was preceded in death by his father Bill Carroll, his mother Betty Mae Bullock, and his beloved son, Benjamin David Carroll.
David was a cherished man who will be missed by many. He has finished the race, fought the good fight and has received the highest reward, 'Well done, good and faithful servant'.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, June 18th, 2:00 p.m. at Richland Baptist Church, 1632 George Washington Way. A reception will immediately follow at the same location. Donations in Dr. David Carroll's name may be made to Make a Wish Foundation, 139 S. Sherman Spokane, WA 99202-1460 509 744-3411 or the charity of your choice.
I am sorry for your loss, he was a great dentist and I remeber him being a great softball coach when I played on the same team as Jennifer during elemtray school. You will be in my prayers.
The service was wonderful! I knew Dr. Carroll as a patient but walked away feeling a sense of being a part of his family in the Lord Jesus Christ, as we will all be together one day in eternity. “This world is not my home, I’m just a travelin’ through, my treasurers are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.” Peace be with you.~Debi
We were patients of Dr. Carroll’s since we moved to the Tri-Cities in 1998. In that time we came to know him as a wonderful and caring man. He is the only other dentist I Barbara had besides my grandfather. We will miss him and his friendly staff. We are so sorry that we cannot be there to celebrate his life on Saturday, but somehow it seems fitting that we will be at the Mariner’s game instead. We will be thinking of him and will always keep his family in our thoughts.

Ah, Dear David,
We weren’t finished. I have a heart that is aching and a tooth that is aching, also. This was not the timing we talked about. We joked about getting even with the IRS by turning Michael loose on them. We had days reserved for sitting on our deck with bottles of wine, some runs in Hood Canal on the crab boat to pull some crab pots for supper, a dinner at Playa Bruja in Mazatlan with the great shrimp dinners after a crazy ride in a pulmonia. These are just some of what we talked about the four of us doing. Now our hearts are hurting and we are overcome by heavy clouds of sadness because you are gone. You would be so proud of Michael as she is so strong now, as you would want her to be. You will be missed by more people than you would ever imagine, but never forgotten by us. I must conclude that Ben needed some company or God needed a good dentist. Either way, their gain is our loss.
Love, Judy
iam so sorry to his wife and kids. He was my dentist and he was very good at his job. He will be missed
Dear Michael,
We are so sorry to hear of the sudden and tragic loss of your dear beloved husband! Dr. Carroll was our dentist for many years and he did such a great job. We also appreciate all the staff at the office – everyone is so helpful and friendly. Michael, may God uphold you and comfort you during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and the staff.
A cherished man! What a wonderful tribute. I cherished Doctor Carroll as my dentist. His office was located on Goethals when I began seeing him. I knew then he was the best dentist ever. Oh how I will miss him! He is in my heart forever.
Wendy and family, I am so sorry to hear about this. Even though it’s nice to think of your dad’s salvation and that he is doing wonderfully in Heaven now, it is so difficult for loved ones to lose somebody so tragically when they’re still young and healthy. I’m so thankful he had a wonderful loving family, and lived a good life, having helped so many people, and having set such a good example. Blessings to you and your family.
I don’t know where to begin. David was a wonderful man. He was my dentist for years. I always will remember Micheal and the staff as they made it easy for me to come in. God and Ben and Betty needed him so we have to say goodbye. It is hard but God will see you thru it.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and your staff.
A friend always. Pam Frisbie
You will be missed, Dr. C. We are sad to have lost you but take comfort in knowing that you are in the presence of our Lord. Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael and the rest of your family. Tracy and I love you all.
I just wanted to give my love to Michael and family at this difficult time. Dr. Carroll was my dentist for the past 15 years and has always taken such good care of me through all of the many painful procedures I’ve had. And Michael was always there to greet me with a smiling face and we had wonderful conversations each and every time. May God be with you during this time, Michael… I hope that you are able to find peace and strength in him.
Michael and Family….
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Having lost cherished ones there are no words to convey that you have not already heard…..No more pain and He lives with His Lord to meet you at the gates of heaven one day.
I pray God’s coccoon gently envelopes you now and strengthens you. I know you to be a strong woman of faith as you always have been….and pray His Peace that surpasses all understanding to guide you now and each day forward.

Dear Michael,
John and I are so very sorry for your loss. We have always trusted your office and staff and love catching up with you about the family when it’s time to come in. It’s a testament to Dr. Carroll that we’ve never been to another dentist since we moved here in 1979 and began bringing in our son when he was 5. I was so scared of dentists! Now I look forward to the visits knowing that I’ll be well-cared for. What a great atmosphere you created.
We know you are loved and supported by friends and family and hope that helps you through this terrible time. Dr. Carroll will be greatly missed in our community. And you will be in our thoughts and prayers in the weeks and months to come.
Michael: My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Having been a patient of his for a long time, I grew to enjoy the visits as David had such wonderful chairside manners. He will be truly missed. May God Bless you all.
We will so miss Dr. Carroll he was more than our Dr. he was a true friend. He brought such joy to our family but especially to Jerry and Darlene! He will have many Crowns to give to our Heavenly Father. Michael You are Much Loved by All. You are in our prayers daily. The LaBorde Family
Dr.Carroll brought back my smile. He is the best dentist I ever had. My husband Joe worked in his office, and at his house remodeling, etc. And Michael with her smile, and her laugh made it almost fun to go to the dentist. Imagine that. My thoughts and prayers go out to you Michael, and to all of the family members. I am not very good at things like this, but he really changed my life.
Michael and Family,
We were sorry to hear about David. We have fond memories of you all living next door and visiting there. David was a very caring dentist to us as well. He will be missed by us. May God be with you.
The lovely obituary that was written says it all. Dr. Carroll was a fine dentist and a fine person. He will be missed. My prayers are with all of you. May you often feel God’s consoling presence as you continue to persevere to do His will.
Michael: Im so sorry to hear about David. My heart is breaking for you. I enjoyed so much coming into your office for 20 years and visiting with you and Dr. and all the staff. I know the Lord is with you and comforting you, but if you need to talk please call. Im praying for you and your family. Bev Finney- Husks Office Supply
Dear Michael and family,
It was an honor to have known your husband for so many years in a working relationship. You and he both brought a lot of laughter to our days and I will remember him always with a smile on my face. You are cherished also, Michael, and I lift you up in prayer knowing that God will strengthen you and give you great courage. And it’s awesome knowing that your hope is not in this life, but in the everlasting one to come. Love you much! Beckie
I was so sorry to hear the tragic news about Dr. Carroll who has been my dentist for nearly 30 years. Dr. Carroll cared about his patients and was committed to bringing more smiles in this world. He will be missed. May God bless his family and staff –my sincere condolences.
Dear Michael and family,
I also want to share my condolences. When I was 13 years old, a significant event in my life was joining Columbia Bible Church’s teen class, taught by Dr. Carroll. He had printed handouts for us each week, and we loved how he treated us as grown-ups, only we knew we were having much more fun than the adult class. I appreciate the investment he made in my life.
So glad I was able to attend the beautiful service.
Dr. Carroll has been our wonderful family dentist for so many years although we didn’t go as often as we should.
Don reminded me of the time he had an appointment with Dr. Carroll and stopped at the store real quick to get some gum. When Don got back to the car it wouldn’t start. Don called the office to let them know that he wouldn’t be able to make the app.. Dr. answered the phone because the staff was at lunch and asked him where he was, then picked him up and brought him to the office!
Thank you Dr. Carroll for all you have done for us through the years, we will miss you!
Don, Karen, Justin, Ashley, Hayley, Kyle and Carlie Wyant
Dear Carroll Family, We were very saddened to hear that both Ben and Dr. Carroll were no longer here with us. I have wonderful memories with your family out on the softball field. I am forever grateful for the support that Dr. Carroll gave me throughout my softball career. May you be at peace knowing that both Ben and Dr. Carroll are together now. My family is praying for yours may you find comfort amongst your family and love ones during this time.
