Eileen Frances ‘Fran’ Henniger
Eileen Frances Fran Henniger was born on March 3, 1925 in Langdon, North Dakota to parents Creed Maskel and Bertha Chamberlain Lane. She passed from this life on Sunday morning, November 14, 2010 from natural causes, with family by her side. She was a much loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Fran grew up on a farm in North Dakota along with her 3 brothers, one sister, and four half siblings, children of her father's first wife who died young. Life on the plains was full of hard work and simple values, and she shared stories of being given responsibilities as a very young girl in the operation of the family farm. This early training served her well, as she was a woman of great strength, physically mentally, and spiritually. The Lane family moved to Enumclaw, Washington in 1941 and Fran graduated from Enumclaw High School. After this she joined the service and served in the WAVES during World War II. After the war, she met a tall handsome man named Dale at a dance in Enumclaw. His parents took an immediate liking to her, as did he, and on December 13, 1947, Fran married Dale Logan Henniger at the Presbyterian church in Enumclaw. They were blessed in quick succession by three sons: Mike,1948 Pat,1950 and Bill1951. In 1955, the young family moved to West Richland where Dale served on Hanford Patrol, with the Richland Police Dept., and as Undersheriff for Benton County. During this time, Fran made a home for her family, assisting in finances by using the frugal values she learned as a girl during the Great Depression, and doing extra jobs like harvesting grapes to keep her growing boys in school clothes. A sense of humor served her all through life. She loved to be surprised and enjoyed giving others a bit of a good natured tease to keep them on their toes. She was always proud of her tall, athletic sons, and pleased that they all went on to higher levels of education after leaving home. Dale passed away from cancer at the age of 52, and Fran lived on her own for 35 years, traveling to such destinations as Israel, Germany and Hong Kong; and active and driving until a couple of months before her death.
Fran was a woman of faith and grew in her knowledge of the Lord and His Word with a heart to follow His will. When the family moved to West Richland, Fran became a member of Bethany United Protestant church and served actively on their board for years. While participating in Bible Study Fellowship for several years, she made the decision to be immersed into Christ, as she had been sprinkled as a baby, and realized that God wanted something more. In 1990, she made the decision to leave the "flood plain" of her West Richland home and move into town to her home on Cedar Ave. At that time she became a member of First Baptist Church in Richland, where she worshipped until her passing. She was confident of her readiness to meet the Lord and looked forward to seeing Him.
Preceding Fran in death are her husband Dale Logan Henniger, her great grandson Nathan Lanning, her brothers, Eugene, Garrett, and Creed, and her sister Janette. Surviving her are: her three sons, Michael Lisa, Patrick Ranee, and William Fran; nine grandchildren, Becky ReevesDavid, Jay HennigerDee Dee, Sarah LanningTim, Amy LaceyJason, David HennigerCaryn, Aly Henniger, Logan Henniger, Evan Henniger, and Courtney Henniger. She also leaves nine great grandchildren: Andrew and Anna Lanning; Hannah, Elijah, Gabriel and Caleb Reeves; Isaac Henniger, Ben Henniger, Ella Lacey, and another Henniger grandson due in March. Her influence and legacy have spread throughout the world through her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she was so proud of all their accomplishments. She was loved and will be missed by so many.
We love you mom
I am so sorry for you lose. I was the pesky little girl that lived next door when Mrs. Henniger lived in West Richland. She was a wonderful woman and a great role model for me. I have many fond memories of learning to bake, how to clean house and garden as I tagged around behind her. She was always kind, loving and generous to me. Because of her influence in my life I am a better person. I know that she is in God’s loving company now and will continue to watch over those she loves. I pray that God blesses you all and holds you close.
