Susan Louise Stull Monk

Susan L. Monk "Suzie" age 60, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010 at her home in Richland, Washington. Susan was born July 31, 1949 in Richland, Washington, to Ron and Peggy Stull. In 1968, she married Todd Gilmore Jr. at the Richland Alliance Church. Susan lived in the Tri-Cities most of her life.

Susan is survived by her only daughter Kristina Gilmore, of Spokane, WA.; sisters Peggy Johnson, of Cle Elm; Brenda Don Draper, of Richland; and two brothers: Ronnie Katie Stull, of Olympia; and Steve Norma Corrado Stull, of Richland. Susan had many nieces and nephews which she loved dearly.

Susan was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ronald and Peggy Stull, maternal grandparents, Jesse and Ruth Kelly; and her great-uncle Everett and Ethel Selman of Republic, Washington.

The love of her life was her daughter, Kristina. Her passions were her cats, horses, fishing, container gardening, ceramics, floral arranging, and taking long walks at Howard Amon Park. She enjoyed reading books, and for many years she had been a bible student with the Kingdom Hall. In her teens, she was featured in an article in the Tri-City Herald about how she saved her horse during a flood on the Yakima River.

Many of her family and friends will gather on Saturday, January 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM near the boat dock on Lee Blvd in Richland for one more walk in Susan's memory. At 3:00 everyone who wishes may join the family at the home of her sister Brenda Draper, 1255 Chardonnay Drive, Richland, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pet Over Population Prevention POPP, PO Box 442, Pasco WA 99301-0442, www.popptricities.org

  • Dear Mom, I will always love and remember you. I will forever remember your wise guidance, especially most recently, and all the good times we’ve made the time to have together. I am deeply sorry that certain persons got your hopes up so high about getting your Indian rights. I know it was a big let down for you. In addition, it’s too bad that I did not know, even though I asked, that you could have been buried at piece with those you loved so much, that have gone before you. The timing of your passage was swift, and I did not have the money that week, but did the next, and was told by those that sat there with me that they did not think you should have a place at the cemetery. I now have read the state laws and have discovered that this could have been provided to you, and charged to me at a later time. It is a grave matter to sit in judgment of others without authority to do so. So on that note, I will end this short goodbye.
