From the Kennewick Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution

There are no words to express the sorrow of losing a loved one. It is a pain that only time will heal. While we did not know Harvey personally, as DAR members, we honor his commitment to our country and his service in its defense. The DAR strongly supports our nations’ military, and we recognize the personal sacrifice that each member gives, as well as their families.

To that end, we offer you our heartfelt condolences, and prayers of comfort. We thank you for Harvey’s service, and his sacrifice to our country.

May God bless you and comfort you as you remember just how very special Harvey was to his family, and his country.

    In grateful remembrance,

  • Harvey befriended my dad Glenn Cameron during their meals at the Kadlec Hospital cafe. I will always appreciate how Harvey made my dad feel special and I will also remember the gentle countenance of Harvey. He was a wonderful and special man.

  • All of my memories of Harvey are a blessing! Growing up and seeing his willingness to support Ruth in all of her gracious volunteering and decorating at the Church was a true example of love. May you be rejoicing in Heaven with Jesus together with Ruth! I am thankful for the memories.

  • My Uncle Harvey…. Oh what a guy!!! Classy, intelligent, generous, kind, handsome too! Precious memories — Anxiously awaiting Uncle Harvey & Aunt Ruths arrival from Washington at Moma Hart & Pappy’s in Henryetta, OK. He would always give me a silver dollar – every year! Pictures of he and Aunt Ruth with my parents attending OU football games men in suits and hats, women in suits, furs and hats!!! Being at their apple and cattle ranch in Washington picking strawberries for my cereal, riding the tractor, cookouts and salmon fishing… I could go on and on… I’ll miss you Uncle Harvey. Thanks for all of the wonderful memories, and you can call me “Lady Bug” any time!!!

  • I would like to express my condolences for the loss of Harvey, and Ruth. I lost touch with them many years ago. As matter of fact, I only knew them as Mr. and Mrs. Hart. We lived across from them on Albemarle CT. from 1968 to about 1974. My sister Janet and I were there form ages 4 to 9. During that time, our mother was having some very serious mental problems. My Moms’ condition caused her to be absent from the home for long periods and my Dads’ job required a lot of his attention. As a result, my sister and I were left to our own devices. I do not remember when Mr. and Mrs. Hart started to take an interest in us but I still have clear and vivid memories of being at their home playing dominos, drinking sweet ice tea and eating cookies. They went so far as to take us to church with them from time to time, and to A&W afterwards. Janet and Harvey even shared a birthday party one year. I wish we had taken the time to thank them.

    Sincerely,

  • Harvey was a GREAT guy. He was the “official” attendance taker at the Old Timers luncheon held at Roy’s Chuckwagon for so many years. He was fun to visit with. Like myself, he cared for his “darling” for quite a while. My sincere sympathy to the family.

  • Dear Hart Family, I wish I had met Harvey. I would have asked him if he was related to Harvey and Albert Hart that left Oklahoma in 1899 and drove in a wagon train to Ten Sleep, Wyoming. My Great Great-Grandparents William and Mary Lewis knew them. There was also another brother Otto who ran a candy store in Buffalo, Wy. God Bless you. Pat Wells

  • My earliest memories of Uncle Harvey are associated with bowling balls not golf balls. In the 1950’s he was a member of a Bowling League at the Atomic Lanes just off Lee Boulevard in Richland and I don’t think that he missed very many games. Faithful is a word that describes him best in my mind. Faithful in his deep love for his wife, in attendance usually there early at the church, and in spending time with Mama Sandlin. I also remember the fun times all the cousins had at the ranch in Benton City. Thanks for the memories.

  • Some of the most fun times I remember are when everyone gathered at Ma and Pa Hart’s house in Henrietta, OK. All of us kids slept on the floor, the oldest boy on one end going down to the youngest boy then the youngest girl up to the oldest girl on the other end. We also ate in age order, oldest first down to the kids. I enjoyed talking with all of my uncles and aunts including Uncle Harvey and Aunt Ruth when they could make it to Oklahoma. The last time I got to talk with them face to face was in the summer of 1987 when we made a trip from Ohio to the west and were able to have dinner with them. We still have the bottle of Mt. St. Helen ash that they sent us. Uncle Harvey will be missed by his nephew in Ohio. Barb and I express our warm sympathy to his close family members.

  • Uncle Harvey was quite a great guy!

I remember him giving each of us cousins a silver dollar whenever he visited Oklahoma, and I still have each one he gave me. I took my family to visit him and Aunt Ruth the year that Mt. St. Helen erupted. He made sure the kids had lots of ash to share at school. The kids thought that was amazing. Uncle Harvey took us to see all the sights. As we passed things, he would tell us all about what went on there. He took us to see the fish ladder at the dam, and all the while he explained everything. It was very interesting. When we started back to Oklahoma, we were talking about how much fun we had and Jerry says, “Ya know, Dad, Uncle Harvey would be a good tour guide!” We have told that story many times, so when we told Jerry the other day that his tour guide had passed away, he knew immediately that it was Uncle Harvey. He was a blessing to us and many others.

  • I began playing golf at Horn Rapids and though never played with Harvey…he was always coming in as I went out… we always talked a little. He was a fine gentleman. I missed him when he stopped coming to the course and working on his golf-balls-for-highschoolers project. It was a privilege to have known him.

  • It was always so exciting when Uncle Harvey and Aunt Ruth were coming to Oklahoma. I remember staying up late at Mama Hart and Pappy’s, waiting for them to arrive. They were always full of energy. Uncle Harvey always had a pocket full of silver dollars. He gave one to each of us cousins. It was like receiving a trophy just for being me.

When my dad, mom, sister, and I visited them on their ranch when I was 8 years old, it was magical! We gathered hay, strawberries, went out in the field to look at the cows…when I RAN out to join Daddy and Uncle Harvey to look at the bull, I had my first encounter with an electric fence! Uncle Harvey and Aunt Ruth let me play their piano and bring home a stray kitten.

I do credit Uncle Harvey for fostering my career. During that visit Uncle Harvey’s back was bothering him, probably from lifting hay. I had inherited the gift of healing massage from my dad, Doug Hart, and while the family was gathered in the living room in the evening, Uncle Harvey would lie in the middle of the floor and I would work on his back. He always told me how much better his back felt and he gave me quarters for my efforts. Now I’m a massage therapist/acupuncturist.

I was always inspired by his love for Christ and his love for Aunt Ruth.

Thank you my dear cousin Walt and Lou for being with my Daddy at this tough time.

  • I will always remember Harvey as a gentleman. His manner was always gracious and his appearance refined. Harvey was always so willing to help Ruth out when she did all of her beautiful decorating.

I can still hear him calling Ruth,”Hey Babe” whenever he called her. I always thought that was so sweet!

  • Mr. Hart was a very dear man. He was so special to me, that he helped walking me down the aisle over 29 yrs ago, by pushing my dad’s wheelchair. Before the wedding, I remember him literally pinning my husband to the brick wall in the foyer of old Richland 1st Nazarene church and warning him about treating me well.

I look forward to the ultimate Wedding day when we are all ushered into the presence of our Lord and Savior!

  • I have such fond memories of Harvey sneaking into the Church kitchen to see what I may have saved him to eat! He always told me he loved to eat my food because I used the real stuff!! I can still see him speeding around the Tri-Cities in his little white truck.

I have missed Ruth and will surely miss you too!
