Walter Franklin David

Walter Franklin David, of Richland, died peacefully in his sleep on Oct. 20, 2008. He was born July 5, 1928 in Greene County, Pennsylvania. He was the second of ten children born to Franklin and Mildred David.

Walter, a veteran of the US Navy, served three tours of duty in the Korean War. His service included witnessing the first American hydrogen bomb test, Operation Castle Bravo, in the Pacific.

Walter earned a B. S. in electrical engineering from the University of Wyoming in 1964 and worked at the Pantex, Los Alamos, Rocky Flats, and Hanford sites. He retired from Energy Northwest in 1994.

He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Walter is survived by his wife, Mary, Richland; sisters Mary Simonson, Casper, WY and Lois Silva, White Rock, NM; brothers Arthur of Casper, WY, and Roger of Oklahoma City, OK; children Janet Artzer of Richland, Michael of Vancouver, WA, and Kathleen Zeamer of Camas, WA. Walter took great pride and joy in his grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 27, 2008 t Central United Protestant Church, 1124 Stevens Dr, Richland.

  • Since I met Mary David, Walt’s sister, in high school,dated and was accepted into the family before marriage, while Walt was in the navy and working with Walt and his brothers, it is not possible to write adaquate and proper condolences here. With all of our love, Wayne and Mary
