Mary Josephine Harris

Mary "Jo" Harris of Pasco, Washington passed away September 11, 2008 in Richland, Washington. She was born April 9, 1931 in Valley Springs, Arkansas to Reg and Hester Young. She was the oldest of three children. She attended Valley Springs schools, where she met the love of her life Ed Harris and married him on September 27, 1947 in Harrison, Arkansas. Jo was a resident of the tri-cities for 58 years. She was a beautician and salon owner for several years before becoming a technician for Battelle. She retired in 1990 to travel with her beloved husband Ed. They spent their winters traveling through the South. They also loved camping and fishing. After Ed's death in 1995, Jo continued to spend her winters in Arizona with the friends they travelled with.

Jo was a member of Central United Protestant Church in Richland.

Jo is survived by brother Howard Betty Young of Valley Springs, Arkansas, son John Bonnie Harris of Vancouver, Washington, daughter Karen McElhaney of Pasco, Washington, granddaughter Donna Phil Wastrodowski of Vancouver, Washington, grandson Brian McElhaney of Bay City, Texas, granddaughter Angie James Asbell of West Richland, Washington, granddaughter Christie Forrest Christensen of Gresham, Oregon, granddaughter Carrie Richardson of Sandy, Oregon, and ten great grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 15, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Central United Protestant Church, 1124 Stevens Dr. in Richland. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 915 Bypass highway, Richland. Reception to follow at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4500 Paradise Rd, West Richland.

  • dear karen n angie, iam saddened at the lost of your mother and grandma. she was a very kind and generous lady, the last time i seen and talked with her was at einan’s. visiting franks memoral. , these day’s are hard for you i know and time is the best healer. she is at peace and with her master now. so need not to worrie she is in the best of care.with jesus at her side. may you find confort in that. may god bless and be with you. joy

  • We, Don and Claudia Romsos, remember the good fun we had square dancing with Ed and Jo. I, Claudia, also had her as a hair dresser some years ago. I also remember working with her at Battelle. She was a very lovely lady. So sorry we missed the service.
