From Richland, WA, US | Born in Spanish Fork, Utah

Dorothy Ledingham

Mom was born in Spanish Forks, Utah on June 10, 1922 to Rueben and Susannah Hales. The family later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where Mom grew up with her siblings Warren, Garth, Vivian and Cleo.

After high school Mom attended the University of Utah, where she met her future husband Jay Ledingham.

Mom and Dad married on July 29, 1942. They were married for 62 years before Dad passed away in 2005.

Shortly after their marriage Dad, who had enlisted in the Navy, left to serve his country during WWII.

After the war, Mom and Dad moved to Richland where Dad went to work for General Electric.

Mom raised six children: Mike, Susan, Kathy, David, Diane and Lori. She also has 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mom's favorite pastimes included listening to her records, watching her favorite soaps and bowling. She has several trophies for league play. Mom also enjoyed her affiliation with the VFW Auxiliary, Cook-Erickson Post 7952.

The family is very grateful for the kind and compassionate care Mom got from the staff at Guardian Angel in Richland for the last couple of years. We are also very grateful for the caring staff at Hospice. Special thanks to Warren G., Mom's good friend who made her life joyous in the last two years.

A memorial will be held from 1:00-4:00 PM September 20, 2008 at the Red Lion Hotel in Richland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99337. Cards may be sent to Diane Vanderburg, 520 Fern Ct., West Richland, WA 99353.

  • To Aunt Dot’s special children and grand children,

While no words of mine can ease your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. Aunt Dot was a wonderful lady. One memory I will never forget is when I came over to spend time with her daughter, Kathy. A new band, called The Beatles, came on the Ed Sullivan Show, and Aunt Dot let us girls scream our heads off during the entire performance. When my dad came to pick me up he thought we were crazy…but Aunt Dot didn’t. We’ll all miss her unique spirit.

  • Dorothy was a great lady and mother-in-law. Who knows her son better than a mother, and just how much and what to tell a daughter-in-law? She had a dry and wry wit where a certain look shared would break up those in the know. Her tolerance level for all the chaos of a large family, with all its extensions and additions, was huge. When she had had enough, she would quietly retreat to her bedroom where no one dare interrupt. She knew how to take care of her flock and herself at the same time. Nothing seemed to move her off center. Her strength in times of trouble held not only for herself but for those close to her. Dorothy commanded respect from everyone who knew her. She is a blessed memory for me and will be sorely missed by her large circle of family and friends.

  • Hi,

I’m JoAnn’s daughter, and I remember many fun times with Dot, Jay and family when we were growing up.

I will always remember Dot for her beauty, wonderful sense of humor and infectious laugh. I enjoyed being able to spend time with her, Jay, Cleo and Ralph when they visited our home in Kennewick when our twins were little about 4.

Dot always seemed like a joyful woman, who just sparkled with the wonder and zest of life.

I’m glad to hear that she had a special friend these past few years. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you who loved her and made her life bountiful.

    Much Love,

    Pam

  • To the Ledingham family,

I am very sorry to hear about Dorothy’s passing. I feel like I lost a member of my family too. During our years growing up, Dorothy and Jay were second parents to particularly Mike & Myself. God bless you all and help you through your loss. It is never easy to say good-bye to our loved ones no matter what the circumstances are. Love you all very much.
