Mary Jane Bott

Mary Jane Bott, 93, of Richland, died in Richland on February 28, 2008. Jane was born in Sioux Falls, S.D. on May 12, 1914, the second of six children born to Bert and Haley Donahoe. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Ann Dougherty of Sioux Falls, S.D., her children Barbara Ann Druffel, JoAnn Bott-Pooler, Kathleen Ann Bartholomew Dale, Margaret Ann Panisko Frank, James J. Bott, Nancy Ann Bott and Patrick J. Bott and 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Joseph Bott, her son Michael Joseph Bott and her son-in-law Harry J. Druffel, who were waiting for her in heaven when she arrived.

Walt and Jane started their family in Sioux Falls with 3 girls before moving to Marshalltown, Iowa where they added another girl to their family. During the war Walt secured a job in the Portland, OR shipyards. Jane and their four little girls traveled on an unforgettable, fully-loaded troop train to join him shortly thereafter. Jim was born in Portland before they relocated to Richland in 1944 where Walt worked at Hanford until his retirement. Nancy, Mike and Pat were born in Richland.

Jane was very involved with Christ the King Catholic Church throughout her active life, participating in YLI, Altar Society, Stephens Ministry, Legion of Mary and Jr. Legion of Mary as well as attending daily Mass. She was an activist in the neighborhood crusading for sidewalks and parks. She enjoyed antiques and reading good books. She had uncommon integrity and character and was full of life. She had a special devotion and love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She had a special way that warmed our hearts and the qualities that made her the wonderful person she was have left us with many beautiful memories. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and we will miss her greatly.

She taught us by her way of life that we are not citizens of this world trying to make our way to heaven; we are citizens of heaven trying to make our way through this world.

The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers who were so kind to her over the many years of her illness. A special thank you to Dr. Eduardo Gembs and his office for their wonderful care.

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, followed by rosary at 6 p.m. at Einan's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Christ the King Church in Richland with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
