Ngan ”Tina” Ching Woo
Ngan Tina Ching Woo, 76, of Richland, passed away November 14, 2006 at her home in Richland. She was born November 5, 1930 in Canton, China to Leong Kwai and Pun Kam Wong. She moved from China to the Tri-Cities in 1963 and was a homemaker and restaurant owner.
Tina grew up in a small village in China, on a small farm. She was especially proud of the pigs she raised that people wanted for celebrations and feasts. Raising pigs in China was very labor intensive. She would hand cut, gather, chop and cook various vegetables and leaves into a soft mush to feed the pigs every day.
She was very proud of being the first female in her village to secure a factory job as a seamstress. This was unusual for the era because females stayed at home in China. She was renowned for her sewing skills in China, in which people from afar would commission her to create various clothing pieces using difficult cuts and fragile fabrics. Her sewing skills continued with all the clothes she would make for her children when they were younger.
Tina had a natural green thumb and could grow anything from a simple clipping, a flower given to her, or a seed from a piece of fruit she ate. She was a wonderful mother and an excellent cook. She had a feisty spirit and a wonderful, warm smile. She will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include her husband Bong Jim Woo; children Yuk Chor Chan Chuen Wai Pak, Cathy DeKalb Mike, Bradley Woo, Carol Woo, and Brian Woo; grandchildren Peggy, Daniel, Maggie, Jaymee, Ian, Collin and Owen; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter Carla May Woo-Morris.
Visitation will be 1:00-7:00 PM Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Einans Funeral Home, Richland
Dear Mr Woo, Brian, and family: I want you to know how sorry we are about the loss of your mom. Through the years she has been so kind to Matthew, and he has always spoken of her affectionately. I gratefully remember the Christmas dinner we shared at the Moon Palace. Believe me, it was a real blessing being with all of you. I am so glad that I was able to visit with her briefly recently, reminding her of just how much she is loved and what a pretty lady she was! Your obituary is well written, informative, and appreciated, and it taught me much about her that I was not aware of. I send you many blessings for peace, and hope that you can gain a bit of comfort from the many wonderful memories she left behind. Your devotion was wonderful to see! With love and best wishes to my friends the Woo family, from Diana

My deepest sympathies to the Woo family on the sad passing of your mother. Growing up next door on Wilson Street, I vividly remember her lovely smile and how she would sing out “hello” whenever I would see her. Her love for her family was obvious and my thoughts are with you all Jim, Cathy, Bradley, Carol and Brian.
Carol, Jayme & Family

Carol and family. One o’clock on Sunday I stopped what I was doing to remember your Mother, and to say some prayers for her and the Woo family.
