Nancy C. King

Nancy King passed away on Oct. 12, 2006, after a long illness. She was born on Aug. 23, 1914, in Shelbyville, Kentucky.

In 1943, Nancy left the lush landscapes of Tennessee with her husband, Bob, and two-year old daughter, Nancy Jane, to settle in the desert outpost of Richland, where her son, James, was born in 1945. A spirited, loving and generous woman, Nancy focused her life on her family and her career as manager of the linen department at the Bon Marche Macy's.

Nancy had tremendous energy and was happiest when she was physically active-playing golf, tending her lovely gardens, or entertaining her family and friends. A gracious hostess, she loved having her children and their friends in her home, and was famous for the deep-dish pizza she prepared for their countless parties.

A passionate sports fan, Nancy was especially enthusiastic about the teams of Columbia High School. When the Richland 'Bombers' were a dominant team in the 1950's, she frequently escorted groups of high-spirited teenagers to the Washington State High School Basketball Championships in Seattle, which gave her numerous opportunities to display her deep reserves of patience.

Her greatest passion, though, was for her dogs, especially for her beloved dachshunds, whom Nancy treated extremely well, and forgave endless transgressions.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 1972. Besides her daughter and son, Nancy leaves her son-in-law, Bob Viens; grandsons, Scott Conrad wife Jocelyn and Rick Nowicki; granddaughters, Marcy Northey and Annette McCulley husband Winston; nine great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

The family expresses its deep appreciation to Eleanor Hagen, a long-time friend, and the staff at Life Care Center in Kennewick for the loving and expert care they gave Nancy during her last years.

A graveside service was held Oct. 14 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements were handled by Einan's.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimers Support Group, The Neurological Center, 712 Swift Blvd. Richland, WA 99352.

Our thoughts, prayers and sympathies are with you. I have such fond memories of Grandma King. I was very saddened to read of her passing. She was truly a special and giving person. I would not have made it through some very tough times in my life without her support and kindness.
