Gordon H. ”Gordy” Stein

Gordon Henry Stein was born to Herman and Pauline Stein on July 2, 1923 in Frazee, MN. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army at Ft. Snelling, St. Paul, Minnesota. He served with the Army Corps of Engineers in the European Theatre during World War II.

After the war he married Eilleen DelMain in 1948. He then completed his electrician certification at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He and Eilleen moved to Washington in 1952 where Gordon worked at Hanford until retiring in 1987 from United Nuclear Corp. For the next seven years he and Eilleen wintered in Arizona.

Gordon was a member of the local Union IBEW 112 and a member of the American Legion. He was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Richland since 1953. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, horseshoes, square dancing, and in recent years he enjoyed activities at the Senior Center in Richland.

Gordon died peacefully at home with his wife at his side early on January 7, 2006 after a short bout with cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eilleen, to whom he was married for more than 57 years. He is also survived by daughter, Connie Johnston, from Sun Lakes, Arizona, by two grandchildren, Stacie Staniszewski Brian of Chandler, AZ, Chad Johnston of Tempe, AZ, and one great grandson, Braeden James Staniszewski, and by numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his son James in 1978, and by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Viewing will be Wednesday, January 11 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Einan’s Funeral Home in Richland.

Pastor Loel Haak will officiate over graveside services with military honors Thursday, January 12 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 915 By-Pass Highway, Richland, WA. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 520 Thayer Drive, Richland, WA with Pastor Laurence Meyer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or the Redeemer Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
