Michael Layton Tesky

05/24/1982 — 12/26/2003

From Kennewick, WA, US | Born in Richland, WA

Michael Layton Tesky

Michael Layton Tesky left his earthly home, December 26th, 2003. Michael was born May 24th, 1982 in Richland, WA and lived his short life in Kennewick.

Michael was a very special young man who touched the lives of many and never regretted having been chosen to be one of God’s Special People….

Michael was never able to run, jump, ride a bicycle or play ball like others his age, but rarely complained.

Michael had been diagnosed as having Duchenne Muscular Distrophy at the age of two. By the age five he was using a wheelchair part-time, by age nine he used one full-time, but did not allow this to interfere with his participation in family activities, such as traveling throughout the United States, including numerous National Parks and Monuments; Canada, Disney Land in California and Disney World in Florida.

Michael was active in the Muscular Distrophy Association and took part in the local Jerry Lewis Telethon each Labor Day for 17 years and the “Fill The Boot” campaigns for 12 years.

He was an active Amateur “Ham Radio” operator, KC7MQQ, a great Nascar fan and Dale Ernhardt supporter. Michael could also identify the make and model of almost any car by it’s sound as it went by. Michael will be remembered for his kindness, sunny disposition and positive attitude in spirit of many problems and hardships.

Michael graduated from Kamiakin High School on June 9th, 2001 and recipient of the Ronny Griffith Award. Academic excellence

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents Harold and Evelyn of Richland.

He is survived by his parents Michael and Carol; sister Kim all of Kennewick; aunt Elaine and uncle Butch Hawkins; cousin Stephanie of Richland and a group of special and dedicated people from S&S Nursing, Walsh and Associates and Kennewick School District.

To his many friends he says: “We will meet you again where I will walk beside you all as I have left my wheelchair in my earthly home.”

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 31, 2003 at 1:00pm at Einan’s Funeral Home with a graveside to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday December 29 from 1:00-6:00pm and Tuesday from 1:00-8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers make memorial contributions to Muscular Distrophy Association, East 112 First Ave., Suite #2, Spokane, WA 98202-2278, Wishing Star Foundation, P O Box 4161, Pasco, WA 99301 and the Blue Mt. Council, Boy Scouts of America, 8478 W. Gage BLVD. Kennewick, WA 99336-1075.

  • Dear Mike,Carol, and Kim, I will always have fond memories of Michael. During the five years I was his counselor and companion at the MDA Camp, we got to know and understand one another very well. I kept an indepth journal of each of those camps and have numerous pictures, from which I will have longstanding memories. Although we are saddened by his departure, we should be happy knowing that he really is in a better place now. May God Bless him and welcome him with open arms, and may God Bless and comfort Mike’s family at this time. May their grief be brief, and the celebration of Michael’s life be long and wonderful. I would also like to give special thanks to Nikki. I talked to Michael alot and know how much you meant to him. Thank you for remaining his friend and for making him feel so special.

  • I am so sorry to hear of the loss of such a wonderful guy. I always loved seeing Mike at MDA Camp, Fill-The-Boot, and of course, the Telethon. He always had a smile for you. Mike was one of the driving forces behind what I did as a Producer. His example of strength and endurance inspired us all to do the best job we could. I wish I could have done more. I will miss him and my family will keep his family in our prayers.

  • I have so many great memories of Michael while working with him, that it would be hard to begin to list them. I did learn alot from him during the time we shared. We joked and laughed and teased eachother often. He was a special guy,and I was blessed just being able to know him.

  • Mike, Carol & Kim,

Though I did not really know Michael, I know that he was a very special person and recieved the best care and more love than can be imagined from all of you. How greatly your lives will change without him. Find strength in knowing he is at peace and adding a bit of sunshine to heaven. My best wishes to your family for a healthy New Year, filled with wonderful memories of Michael and the happiness he would want for you.

  • I remember Michael coming over to our house to play video games with Allan and sometimes to eat with us. I remember his quick wit and sense of humor. I remember his kindness and compassion for others. Once, I asked him if he could do any thing in the world, what would it be. Michael paused a moment then replied,” I’d like a job where I could help others, maybe even save lives.” That reply told me a great deal about this wonderful young man.He will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • When I first met Mike about 2 1/2 years ago, I was so amazed by how full of life he was. Although he was in a wheelchair, he was fun-loving and sweet.

I am going to miss him a greast deal, and I know I will see him once again.

  • Mike, Carol and Kim,

I have fond memories of my times together with Michael from elementary school through high school. He taught me lots about life and I thank him for that. I laugh at his impatience with me as he tried to educate me about different makes and models of cars. They all looked the same to me! I feel so fortunate to have known Michael for so many years. He was a kind and considerate young man. I will always treasure his friendship. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

  • Altough I only saw Michael at Telethon and a few other events, talking with him was a joy. When looking at life he saw a challenge to overcome not something he couldn’t acomplish. He made a lasting impression on me. I have thought of him often and will continue to keep him and your family in my prayers.
