Mary Kathleen ”Mickey” Hubbard

Mary Kathleen ''Mickey'' Hubbard Kennewick, WA Einan's Funeral Home

Mary Kathleen ''Mickey'' Hubbard, age 67, was called to the Lord on September 29, 2003. Mickey was born on July 29, 1936 in Meadville, PA to Raymond A. and Kathryn F. Dykes. She graduated high school in Corry, PA in 1954 and immediately entered the Spencer Nursing School where she received her diploma in 1957. Her family moved to Richland, WA in 1960 where she met and married Ray E. Hubbard in August 1961. Mickey loved the nursing profession, continuing to work up until her passing. During her career she worked for Dr.' s Franco & Flanagan, Dr. McCartney, and was currently working with Dr. Shallman' s office in Pasco. She gave of herself freely and willingly to all who entered her life, never asking for anything in return. She touched the lives of many of her patients and will be remembered fondly by those she cared for. Mickey devoted her life to her family and their happiness. She was deeply involved in her children and grandchildren's lives. She coached soccer and softball, was involved in Brownies, and later in life enjoyed attending her grandchildren's soccer, baseball and basketball games. She received great satisfaction watching her grandchildren in ballet, and performing the piano. She loved going to her property at Deer Lake with her family and relaxing, enjoying the sun, and playing with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed playing Bingo with her granddaughters and participating in the 4th of July parade at the Lake. Mickey enjoyed her ladies investment group TWIG and made many lasting friendships during her involvement with the group, she also served as the group's historian. Mom loved music, and played the organ most of her adult life. Christmas just won't be the same without mom playing carols and everyone singing around her on the organ. Mom had a real sense of family and made each holiday a memorable occasion for all. Her bright smile and uplifting presence will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Mom, we love you and miss you, but know that your spirit lives on in your children and grandchildren. Mom's was a special soul and always made each day brighter. She lived by a simple creed and often repeated it to her children; ''Treat everyone you meet with kindness and respect, because you never know, they may have been an angel placed here by God.'' Mickey is survived by her husband Ray E. Hubbard of Kennewick; three children, Christine A. Welch of Kennewick, Tim J. and wife Jennifer J. Hubbard of Kennewick, and Katherine S. Hubbard of Portland, OR.; three step-children, Keri and husband Edward Rutledge of Anchorage, AK, Ray Hubbard of Bend, OR, Sandra and husband Bobby Spivey of Long Beach, WA. Mickey is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Alyssa, Michael, and Ashley Hubbard, Kylee and Hailey Welch, Dr. Jaime Butler and husband Sean Cardinal, Ashley Claeson, Molly and Delaney Bowles, Jill, Justin, and Jason Spivey, Wesley Hubbard, and one great-grandchild Tyler Claeson. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond A. and Kathryn F. Dykes, and brother Daniel R. Dykes. Viewing will be Friday, October 3, 2003 at Einan's Funeral Home Swift Blvd. & Hwy. 240, Richland, WA from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 pm at Einan's Funeral Home immediately following the viewing. • I am one of Micky’s granddaughters. I would just like to say that I am going to miss my grandma very much and that her momory is going to live on forever. I recently saw her in July and there was no sign that she was going to be called away from us. Cancer is a horrible tragedy and affects the life of every family member not just the victim.

GRANDMA I LOVE YOU WITH ALL OF MY HEART AND AM GOING TO MISS YOU.

    Love,

    Molly

  • Ray, although I’ve only met you and Micky once, I know how important both of you are to my wife. I trust that Keri’s presence there during this difficult time will be as comforting for you as it is for her.

  • I moved to Hubbard’s neighborhood in about 1973. It wasn’t too long after that my mother and stepfather were separated and divorced. After the divorce, my mother had her hands full with 3 children to raise and provide for. In consequence, very little time was spent with me and my sisters Cheryl and Marlene.

Many people in the neighborhood went out of their way to become mentors in my life. Mickey was one of those people who went out of her way to be a part of my life. Mickey was my soccer coach for a couple of years when I was a teenager. She was a very energetic positive person that gave me inspiration to be the best I could be. The world was a better place with her in it. I’m so very sorry for your loss and my loss as well.

Thank you Mickey for sharing a part of your life with me.

  • For many summers as a young girl and teenager I spent time with my Grandparents Ray and Mickey. Both taught me many life lessons during the times I spent with them. My grandma Mickey with her spunky and practical, caring and fun-loving nature inspired me. I remember many conversations with her-the both of us chatting over the kitchen counter and in the dinning room for hours about everything under the sun…growing up, opportunity, things in the world. As I grew up, I have always been sure, no matter where I travelled, that she would be the center of a home base that I could return to if needed, and she would be happy to see me for a visit when I passed through. That was a comforting feeling. Recently our catching up times were few and far between, but I last saw her in the Spring and it was like I had never been away. She had long been a mentor for me in the field of medicine and encouraged my progress in medical school and celebrated the end of my schooling with me – she was really proud I think. I will remember her hardworking nature and compassion as I care for people and hope that I can live up to her standards. I have so many fond memories with her and am saddened by her passing.

Much love to everyone who feels her absence, Jaime

  • Few people passing through this world, those here now and those departed, really stand out. Mickey is one of those. One of my great good fortunes in life was to have Mickey touch my life and the lives of my family.

Although our interactions were few and short over the years, the impact remains strong.

Mickey, thank you for the unwavering love, caring, wisdom and advice you so freely shared with those around you.

Ray, Keri, Sandra, Ray, Christine, Tim and Kathy–My thoughts are with you now. Take some solace in knowing you each carry some of the incredible goodness that is Mickey.
