Arthur ”Art” William Graves
12/08/1935 — 12/10/2002
From Richland, WA, US | Born in Los Angeles, California
Arthur ”Art” William Graves
Art passed away in Kadlec Hospital wrapped in the loving arms of his family. The love of his life, Henri, his constant companion and wife of over 40 years, was there for every breath, tear and smile. Art was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. Always putting his family first, his children were his greatest accomplishment and his proudest achievement. Christy and Pat Melville of Naches are the parents of Ryan, Julie and Megan. Michelle and Mark Rollison of Richland, are the parents of Evan Dodson, Parker, Owen and Hugh Rollison. Matt is married to Wendy Graves of Beaverton, Oregon. His hope for our future lies in his grandchildren who showered him with their love. Art will be missed dearly by his father and mother, Arthur and Eva Graves of Seattle, his sister, Barbara Hill of Seattle, and Roger and Barbara Southward of Pocono Pines, PA.
Art was born in Los Angeles. He moved several times in his youth, settling in Seattle to attend the University of Washington, where he received his Masters in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. His career began with Atomics International in Canoga Park, California, and then later for Rocketdyne. After 16 years in California, he moved his family to Richland in 1977 to manage various functions over the years at Hanford. Art was always generous with his time, love and support. He was patient, helpful, always a mentor, a handyman and enjoyed a good Mariners game. He didnt live to work, he worked to live, and so, in 1996, Art retired to spend more time with his family and to travel the world with Henri.
We will miss him every day in every way. We find comfort in knowing he is watching over us and is saving us a place next to him. At Arts request, there will be no funeral. A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation in his name to Prostate Cancer Research.
It was with great sadness that we read of Art’s death. Our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers go out to all the family. May God bring peace and comfort to your hearts.
We will always remember Art’s laughing smile when we talked about our sons when they were young, their lives now and the stories of grandchildren! He will be missed.
Sincerely,
Audrey & Ian Jenkins

Dear Henri and Family:
Our Sincere condolences to you on the passing of Art. He was a good friend and we will remember Art as the outstanding, good person he was. May the peace of God be with you and give you comfort.
I was privileged to have worked with Art at Hanford. He helped me and shared his skills often and very effectively. He was always considerate, helpful, kind and much admired and respected. Being a fine engineer and manager, he always gave sound advice and supported his people with his best efforts. He certainly made many significant contributions to Hanford and to his engineering teams. Art had a large work-family and he was much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Vern and Carol Severud
So sorry to hear of Art’s passing,I know he will be missed by all, especially his family. You are forever in my prayers. Sandy White
Life is so fragile, we are here for a very short time. We appreciated the time we spent, usually in leisure enjoying simple things like conversation and sharing of thoughts, ideas and solving the little things through love and consideration. You left your mark on the world and will be sorely missed by all who were privileged to know you. I will be looking for you at the great powwow in the sky. You have blessed us with your friendship…
Will always remember when Earl and I came to visit you all in Semi Valley, and enjoyed the family so very much. Love, Ruth
While I have lost touch with Art over the past years, I have fond memories of working with him at Hanford. When picturing Art, the first thing that comes to mind is his wonderful smile that made his eyes twinkle. May God bless Henri and all the family in the days to come and may warm memories remain in your hearts.
Henri- May God be with you in these trying times. I am glad that you have such a loving family to help you but if you need someone else to talk to, please call me!
Henri,Our thoughts are with you and your family. We will miss Art always and cherish the time we had together. The memories we have will keep Art in our minds and hearts for years to come. We will be thinking of you.
Brian, Christal,Dano and Rylee
Henri, Too many years have past so quickly since we last got together but fond memories never fade. Working with Art “jump starting” Rockwell at Hanford was a joy. Socializing with the Graves was always festive. You two celebrated life to the fullest. Art made an impact on all those he dealt with. We, and many others, will miss him.

We are so saddened by this news. Art’s smile was his trademark and what we think of when we think of him. Wally and I have many remembrances of parties and weddings in your yard. We think of the discussions of the work he had done on the deck or in your home.
Our deep sympathy. His was a life well lived.
