DONALD WALTER MAZUR Richland, Washington
Big ''D'', Number One, or lately, the Bronze Man, 65, accepted our heavenly father's hand to walk the beaches of heaven, February 10,2002. Don was born March 30, 1935 in Taylor, Michigan, one of two sons of Walter and Helen Mazur . He worked his way through college as a mailman. Upon graduation from Lawrence Institute of Technology,he accepted a job in Seattle for Boeing as a Stress Analysis Engineer on the Minuteman Missile and began his courtship of his wife, whom he married in 1960. With wife in hand, and Father-in-Law at his back, his next move was to Richland, the Hanford area, AEC, 'N' reactor, and eventually ending up as Construction Manager at FFTF. Restless as any good Mazur, Don loaded up his family, horse included, and headed to Louisiana to organize and establish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve Project. He returned to Richland in 1980, with horse and family in tow,to join the Washington Public Power Supply System. Don was named Managing Director in 1983. He retired in 1992 after suffering a stroke. after his stroke he shows me morning dew caught in cobwebs places a yellow rose on my pillow Rita Don always knew that his greatest accomplishments were his family and giving back to his community. ''Dad always tried to help others who had less or were struggling''. He was on the board of Catholic Family and Child Service, past president of Tri-City Prep Board and Construction Chaim1ali, and management of Richland Food Bank construction and Kennewick Food Bank remodel. He was involved in many church activities. His family and his grandchildren were especially his real joy. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, traveling, and maybe a little WWF. He was recognized for many outstanding awards throughout his career, including Gold Knight A ward from NMA, and the ASME Outstanding Leadership A ward for Management Public Power Systems. As his kids always knew, Don kept things short and to the point. An example of this is the shortest and most successfully completed work order in DOE history to Boots and Coots, Inc., West Hackberry, Louisiana; ''PUT OUT FIRE -CAP WELL '' The ''Rose Man'' is survived by his loving wife, Rita. Daughters Donna, Melinda, and Monique. Sons Bruce, and Steve. Son-in-Laws Douglas Milo Himes, Theodore Jarecki, Darin Ebberson. Daughter-in-Laws Kristi, and Kathy. Grandchildren Thaddeus, Catie, Kylie, Courtney, Austin, Jordon, and Alexander. Mother Helen and brother Richard and his wife Carol. His father, Walter Mazur, precedes him in death. Internment will be at 10:00 am Monday, February 18th at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland. Memorial Mass will be at Christ the King Church, Richland at 11 :OO am with reception following in the Cafeteria.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tri-City Prep Scholarship Fund, 9612 St Thomas Drive, Pasco and/or Inpatient Rehab Unit, c/o Kadlec Foundation. 888 Swift Blvd, Richland or charity of choice. HE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED.
So good to see everyone – Hope the piece of all of us that is missing with Don’s sudden passing is quickly filled with peace, strength, and love.
