Patricia Ann Horstman
Patricia S. Horstman, 74, of Richland, passed away Monday, December 10, at Life Care Center of Kennewick. She was born Patricia Ann Snyder on December 20,1926 in Chicago, IL, to Otha William Fenton Snyder and Anna Gertrude Duke. Her father died after a long illness when she was a child, and she was raised by her mother. As a teenager she left a promising modeling career as a Conover model she appeared in ads for Coca-Cola on the covers of several national magazines in the early 40' s to work with her mother at the Hanford Works, where she was employed at Kadlec Hospital as a receptionist, dental assistant, and x-ray technician. In 1947, she was first runner- up in the Miss Richland Beauty Pagent. After her marriage to Vernon Glenn Horstman on June 28,1948, she continued to work in dental offices, helping to support them while Glenn attended college in Pullman, WA and Stillwater, OK. When they returned to the Tri-Cities area in 1955; Pat took up homemaking full time and began to pursue her interests in the arts. She enjoyed painting, sculpture, ceramics, sewing, and other arts and crafts. Other interests included reading, writing, and computers. Pat and Glenn were avid square dancers in the 60' s, belonging to several regional clubs, where Pat was a talented caller. They were involved with their church youth program during the children's teenage years. They adopted their children, Michael and Theresa. Pat was a devoted mother, who could rise above her natural reserve when the occasion demanded to take care of her family. A bridge was widened in Benton City out of her concern for her children's safety. Through much of her life, Pat contended with poor health-ulcerative colitis and hypoglycemia in the 60's, and later cataracts and throat cancer. Throughout these, her worst pain was the fear of how her health might affect her family, but her example was one of selfless devotion. Pat is survived by her husband, Glenn; her children Michael and Theresa; and grandchildren, Gari-Ann and Kinnon Hope and Matthew, Annelise, and Sarah Horstman. Memorial gifts may be made to Catholic Family and Child Service. A Vigil will be Thursday, December 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Einans Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, December 14, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the King Church with interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
