Dear Betty and family–we’re so glad we got to visit with John earlier this month. We’ll surely miss him and the fun of exchanging old time stories of Pitcairn and Idaho Falls. Our deepest sympathy to all.
John and family,
My deepest sympathies go out to you in this time of sorrow. The best sign of friendship is to be there in good and bad times. I’m sorry that I cannot be there personally, but my thoughts are with you.
Brian
The best of friends for nearly 25 years. Lots of visiting–lots of dinnerswhere are we going to eat??lots of conversations–we’re
really going to miss John not being here. We just thank God that we had the opportunity to be his friends.
John, I know how hard it is to lose your father, I lost mine three years ago this month. Believe me, it does get easier. Now, all that comes to mind are good memories. Yes, I miss him still and I’m sure that I always will. Now is the time to grieve, it’s a natural and good thing to experience and then, on our own time-frame, we get on with living and the smile that the memories bring – and those smile will come. Take refuge in the comforting arms of your loving wife and the Grace of our loving Father. Our thoughts are with you. Return safely to these beautiful islands.
My Deepest Sympathy John~
My prayers are with you.
May He Be in Peace.
Fondest Aloha

Grandpa I wish I knew what to say right about now. I’m remembering the phone call with you on my birthday just a few days ago and I wished I said more than usual. It’s funny those things you wish you could take back or do over again. All the memories seem to flood my mind now. Nothing but good times. 17 thanksgivings, christmas, easters, and visits. 17 years of love fondly given and never forgotten. Your face is so clear to me in my dreams and remembrances it is hard not to cry. For no time but this have I remembered so much about a person, his life, his stories, and our time together. I will cherish it forever. My Mom always said you should write a book, and I’ll pray everyday that I’ll get a chance to have that book read to me up in heaven with you someday. Keep smiling down on us. We love you….your grandchild, Lindsay
To Claudia and Beth

To Aunt Betty, Claudia, John and Beth – family is precious and we are here for you in any way that you might need us… words can not express what we really feel – our love, thoughts, and memories are of you all and will hopefully be felt within your hearts at this time.

Dear John, Donna and Family,
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless You All and stay strong for each other. Here is a poem for you all: His Journey’s Just Begun..
Don’t think of him as gone away-his journey’s just begun; life holds so many facets–this earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think how he must be wishing that we could know, today, how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched..for nothing loved is ever lost..and he was loved so much. Ellen Brenneman
We love you all very much. Keep the faith and remember God loves you all. Call out to him and he will be there for you. Love and aloha, Luzette, Casey and Rick

Dear Betty and family…In one of her books, Corrie ten Boom, tells us what death is like for a Christian. “A man and his little boy went over a long narrow bridge. It was over a broad river and the boy said I am afraid. Do you see all that water down there? Give me your hand, the father said. The moment the boy felt his father’s hand, he was not afraid. In the evening they had to go back again, and this time it was pitch dark. Now I am more afraid than this morning, the boy cried. The father took the little boy in his arms. Immediately he fell asleep, to awaken the next day in his own bed. That is what death is like for the Christian. To fall asleep and wake up at home” And so it was for John. He fell asleep and woke up at home. On their 60th anniversary we celebrated with Betty and John at the Olive Garden where John told us about a group of retired friends that he often had breakfast with at MacDonalds. He said the group was called REMEO and that it stood for Retired Old Men Eating Out…It reminds us of his sense of humour and I always enjoyed John’s company. Don Mutch
To John’s Family –
We feel truly blessed to have our wonderful neighbors, Betty and John, these past 11 years. Always ready to visit, share a story, open our house when we locked ourselves out, and provide us with apples, peaches, raspberries, and walnuts from their yard. We always knew when John and Betty were on the move by the daily “honk” from the green van passing by, and the hum of the golf cart bringing John next door for a visit. We’ll miss him so very much. God bless you all. Mark and Janelle
Dear Beth, Kevin & Girls. . .
I was so sorry to hear about your father Beth. After having lost both my parents I
know how difficult it is. I’m sure you and your family have many wonderful memories to
sustain you during this time of healing. I also feel this
may be a time of renewed close
ness with your mom and rest of
your family. I know when I lost my parents my brother and I became much closer.Having Kevin and the girls at your side will give you a lot of comfort as well.
Beth my sincerest wishes be with you and please keep your
wonderful sense of humor alive during the days ahead.
Love and hugs to you all.
Sincerely LouWanna
From the time I was a little boy, Uncle John was my hero! Always going somewhere and doing things that amazed me.
Over the years there was a special fondness that never varied. We rarely got together but Brigitte was finaly able to met Uncle John and Aunt Betty four years ago when we visited them at their home. Brigitte too instantly developed the same fondness as I and we both will greatly miss Uncle John!!
Aloha John,
Just wanted to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and Donna during this difficult time. We’ll talk to you when you return. Much aloha, Ernie and Pat
May you find peace in your hearts, love in your self, and a joyful curiosity for life. Blessings to you all during this magical transition.
Dear Beth and Family,
I am so sorry to hear this painful news. Your dad was a wonderful person, who loved you very much.
I hope the many memories of your dad will help you through this time of sorrow. You’ve shared so many stories about your dad with me over the years – I feel as if I was there during the famous “bee” incident. And I will always remember the times spent across the table from your dad, playing cards, watching him take trick after trick! “Not through the Iron Duke!” he’d exclaim. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and he bequeathed that to you.
I wish I could be there to hug you and provide support as you did for me with my mom.
My heart goes out to you and your family. In your despair, remember he will be with you, in your heart…always.
Koranne
My sympathy is with you during this time. Hope you will find strentgh during this time of loss. Just know that your fiends are with you, and will help with whatever you may need. Be proud that you were a part of his life, I’m sure he was proud to have been a part of yours.
Betty,
Please accept my sympathy and I will pray for your family as the loss of John is fully realized. I hope the memories grow stronger as the pain subsides. You and John built quite a family tree and the nourishment administered will support you now but I know John is pointing out that tree with great pride as the focal point of his garden on earth. My love and peace to you and your family, please give Beth a hug for me.
Rick
Much love from Gib & Em.
Dad says he will send as Uncle John would say “snail mail” soon.
And as Dad would say, “As aye, the best…”

Aloha John,
Our prayers are with you and your family during this time of grief. I came across a poem by Helen Steiner Rice that I want to share with you. It is entitled: “God’s
Hand is Always There.”
I am perplexed and often vexed
And sometimes I cry and
sadly sigh,
But do not think, DEAR FATHER ABOVE,
I question YOU or YOUR UNCHANGING LOVE.
It’s just sometimes when I reach out
YOU seem to be nowhere about..
And while I’m sure that You love me still
and I know in my heart that YOU ALWAYS WILL,
Somehow I feel that I cannot reach YOU
And though I get down on my knees and beseech you,
I cannot bring YOU closer to me
And I feel adrift on life’s on life raging sea…
But though I cannot find YOUR
HAND
To lead me on to THE PROMISED LAND,
I still believe with all my being
YOUR HAND IS THERE BEYOND MY SEEING.
I close with a promise from God’s Word Isaiah 40:31
“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Again, you are in our prayers. Also, don’t hesitate to call if you need to talk. My numbers are 808456-3256 or cell. 255-4312.
In God’s Aloha,
John Vaughn

We are so sorry to hear of John’s passing away. Our thoughts are with you and may it help ease the pain to know we care.
The John McLaughlin we knew was a very gentle, caring and loving man. He loved his family dearly and showed it with his actions. He adored his grandchildren and would hold them and sing to them by the hour when they were babies.
We played Spades and Hearts with John. His humor and witty expressions added much fun to the games.
John was a gifted man. He had a great singing voice. He also did needlepoint.
He made the best tomato juice which he would share with us.
We were fortunate to have known John for 23 years.
We will miss him.
We share in your sorrow and loss of your husband, father and grandfather. He was a quite a character and the best stories from our dad always included John. Do you know the one about him walking out of a shoe store one day with a new pair on his feet and the old pair left there? Howd loved your dad more than his own brother. May memories ease your pain. Love to all of you, Carole

John and Donna …
Remember his life with smiles and see him in the sunrise. We are thinking of you with Aloha.
I have fond memories of John as a concerned parent when
we were teenagers at Idaho Falls High School. He always had
a sense of humor and a very friendly and approachable face.
It is with much sadness that I send our heartfelt sympathies
to the entire family. The pain of losing a loved one is great.
God bless you all.

I am very grateful for the memories of John’s friendship with my parents. The stories they have told me will forever bring a smile to my face. I will never forget our trip to Cape Cod – and “Alone Again Naturally”! I am so glad we got to visit last summer. I will miss the e-mails and that tremendous sense of humor. All my love, Lori….. Mom too.

with: “I love you more than…………., to John I will miss him more than, fishing
with him in Box Canyon or having him teach me how to weld. He was a great man!
