Katharina ”Kitty” Karolina Friar
KATHARINA KITTY FRIAR Our beloved mother, Kitty, went to be with her heavenly family on Tuesday, July 17, 2001. Mom left this world at age 65, after a short struggle with lung cancer.
Kitty was born in Steppach, Germany on February 17, 1936, to Richard and Anna Nertinger. She became a military bride in 1959, in Augsburg, Germany when she married Billy R. Hoffman. Army life took her to beautiful places until her husband passed away. Among them were Munich, Bad Tolz, Fort Dix, Fort Riley and Fort Bragg.
Kitty came to Richland in 1978 from Kansas to be with her soul mate, Leon Friar. They were married and lived a fun filled life of fishing, camping and traveling the country to gun shows. Moms wonderful years with Leon came to an end all too soon after he passed away in 1988. She filled up her days caring for her grandchildren, watching her soap The Guiding Light and working in her rose garden. Her passion was doing Jigsaw Puzzles. Mom could cook the best German food this side of the ocean and grill the best burgers you ever ate. She loved to gather her family around her on holidays for meals fit for a king.
Kitty spent her last months in the loving embrace of her family and friends free from worry and pain.
We wish to thank Dr. Kevin Taylor for his compassionate care and the angels of the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice for their special kindness in caring for Mom at their paradise known as Hospice House.
She is survived by daughter, Karla Jackson with husband, Dennis; daughter, Patricia Roggenkamp with husband, Joe and their children, Christopher, Heather, Jacob and Cody; son, Tony Hoffman with wife, Kris and their children, James and Sean; stepson, Steve Friar with wife, Denelle; grandson, Oliver Acosta; great grandsons, Cole Jesse Acosta and Drew.
Kitty was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Friar.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2001, at Einans Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336.
Today i went through the old memories and letters of my beloved grandmother Ingeborg Nertinger. She passed away 2001 in Germany. She was the sister in law from Kitty. I found so may letters, greeting cards and pictures she received through the years. I remember playing in Graet grandmother Nertingers garden in Augsburg Bärenkeller. Little memories are still there and i remember Karla and Oliver very well. When Ana Nertinger passed away i cleaned up her house. And today i have the sad duty to clean up the house of my beloved uncle Richard Nertinger and his wife Anita who passed away 2 months ago. Its so sad to see these memories , but same time i can feel the strong bounding from my grandmother and Kitty . Have so many questions, but no one more to answer. In loving memories
May they all rest in peace
I loved my grandmother very much and was very sad to see her pass.23 years later I can still remember all the good times we had. I love you grandma Kitty i hope you have been resting peacefully up there!
I am on vacation in Texas when I got the message about Kitty. You are in my prayers and know that I will miss her.
Kitty will be missed each day. We enjoyed her and the visits we had with her and Mar in the back yard; Also the movies we sat and watched with them. Fonda
